Pacha's First Solo

VIP Guest: P.104's London-born Kelana Kaya MP Gwo-Burne at Pacha's solo ...

Some inspired guests : My niece (left) and her best friend. Hmm, isn't that Nuraina's niece?

Pacha, The Artist.

Bali Meranti's real life lesson in Art Appreciation ...

IT IS THE LIFELONG DREAM, THE RECOGNITION, THE CULMINATION of any artist to host their first solo. What more if the artist in question found her calling very late in life; she was in her late twenties before she picked up that first brush to canvas.

That artist is my sister, Pacha. And the exhibition's titled "Pomegranate and 1000 Birds".

Entirely self-taught, she bagged Bank Negara's second prize for her Imperfect But Beautiful in 2004 that won her a silver trophy and an RM8000 cash prize.

She is married to Adrian Edris of Ahmad Izham Omar's Monkeybone label, who manages artistes like Faizal Tahir, Suki, Norayu Damit and Shila. Adrian's also currently involved in 8TV's One In A Million and Kami -The Gig. They have a daughter, Bali Meranti.

Please do come and visit the Gallery. The Exhibition will run until December 12.

For more stories and pictures, please come visit my other blog.

This thing about "self-taught" - in the creative field, one will be at his/her most original, having decided what she wants to be and not influenced by what "someone else think should be"...

But that's not to say attending lessons is a negative thing. In fact, we often make significant change and progress over a much shorter period of time when someone is there to point and guide.

Anyway, good luck to your sister.

[I'll be in KL/mont kiara on Wed due to a "must come" meeting... and return the same night]

Mat C.. too true, bro. I was there before she even picked up the first brush, years after poring through law books... ha ha. Her art is definitely original because she didn't - and couldn't - know any better.

Sometimes I wonder too. What if she did have formal training in art? I think what shaped her is her own experiences. That's what artistes do - they are the ultimate democrat. The soak what's around them and then express it in their individual style that hopefully others can relate too. Hmm, sounds familiar? That could apply to you too Mat.. Thank for the wishes...

KB GUY: Tima Kaseh bro. Coming from a fellow photographer I appreciate your kind words very muvh. I try to do her art justice.. but paintings need to be seen 'live', unlike photos for the full emotional impact, kan bro?

Mat Salo,
She has some very nice paintings. She must have a natural flair for it.Too bad I don't live in KL otherwise I would be there.I am interested to buy some if they are for sale.

Please check with her if they are for sale and will give you my media preference, photo format for viewing and size over email. You have my email, please let me know.

Incidentally,my eldest daughter is also a self-taught artist and we have some of her paintings hanging on our walls.Unfortunately, being very busy she has stopped painting for a while now.

Thanks.
