Agents of Change

I'm ashamed of myself.

Why? Just because I couldn't be a part of history - my vain, shallow self kept wallowing in self-pity. . .

I'm here in Indonesia, chasing the ever-shrinking once-almighty buck when I should be back home . . . so I can also wear that smug look . . . Is that a sneer or a gloat? Go on, feel free. Savor it.

Why - the "horses" I backed - save Chegubard - all won. Chegubard did win though - at least after the initial count, by a few hundred votes I had heard. But suddenly after a recount, his reviled opponent S-I-L emerged victorious with an even bigger margin! How can that be?

Ne'er mind, chegubard. You'll live to fight another day.

Then my ego started to kick-in: Hey, maybe with my blogging articles and stuff I did, maybe I managed to sway around some voters to The Other Side. But don't flatter your self, kiddo. Who am I kidding? The "Agents of Change" did it. Not me. I was just a bystander of no consequence.

These pictures of the notorious Agents were taken in 2007 by your truly, when bloggers were still monkeys. Now some of the monkeys have gone on to become YB's. Hmmm, monkeys and YB's . . . I admit they do rhyme.

Glad also to report I am re-affirmed in my faith now. Although ashamed that I was not able to contribute by physically being present at the booth, I did make some long-distance calls to persuade perhaps a recalcitrant family member or two. Also made some ineffectual transfers by Maybank2U and PayPal via the internet to help the volunteers buy a case of Spritzers or something. Can't say I did anything significant. Mostly I'm proud my fellow Malaysians have chosen the irrevocable path. It's like deflowering a virgin: Once you "paku" -err, I meant pangkah - there's just no turning back.

Congrats Eli, Congrats Jeff, Congrats Nurul Izzah, Fong, Siva, Husam, all you Goliath slayers out there ... Congrats. . . But most of all -Congrats to The People of Malaysia!

Because of you now I'm able to hold my head up high again.

I present you . . . The Agents of Change.

These are people who have contributed to the betterment of Malaysia, one way or another (alright, mainly via blogs) and rightfully deserve the accolades!

MS, i admit im very bn and pro-tdm person but i agree tht bn needed tht kick in the arse. some more than others and thts why it makes me sad tht those yg sepatutnya didn win (read:kj) still win.

my q is, whos gonna look after the forming of nurin alert now tht shahrizat is no longer menteri?

Mat Salo said...

Chegu - Makkal Sakhti kembali boss!

Acciatutara - Hmmmm, doa orang macam matsalo ni susah laa nak cakap E ... eh sedar tak gombo? :)

Farina - Although I commended Sharizat about Nurin, please also remember it was blogger gals like Nuraina, Tembam et al who championed the cause, and is still hard at it. The will be other ministers that bloggers would push thru'... let's pray.

As for KJ I'm still dying to hear the much anticipated press conference when chegubard will reveal all the "shenanigans" that you-know-who had to pull to win.

sedar. siap tunjuk kat anak-anak. bijak awak. just nice, macam string lines dalam lagu : bila ada tak perasan, bila tak ada terasa kehilangan! chewaah..!haahaahaa..

I agree those agents of change made a huge difference. My hat's off to them and you too. You may think that what you did seem small but I think it is significant enough. If you managed to persuade a family member or two, those votes counted (besides you kept some people hydrated). :)

Now, we cannot expect miracles overnight but we can certainly hope that things will improve over time.

Take care.

that one agent certainly didnt do much but spewing all the words you can find on every pages of a porno mag.

nonetheless, SPR was the sitting duck but them being a one-sided agent, their superior gets to pay the full price.

Now, lets see who does a better job! The mandate is given to the the chosen representative. Got to work people.

Remember friends that 5 years will pass in a blink of an eye. Sapa2 yang tak perform or corrupt, the rakyat WILL speak again through the ballot box.

Ada berannnnniii!!

I can't believe the "lowly bloggers" helped rock the mighty powerful BN. I hope they get the message written on the wall.

Me? I am just a humble mother who wants a better country for her son. A country which does not deny his inherent right to speak up for his right and to shut up when he's not needed to say anything.

Amin amin amin...

Salam MS,
Tentang CheguBard tu, saya pun dengar cerita yang sama dari adik saya yang tinggal di Rembau. Ada undi pos yang banyak baru tiba ke? atau ada peti undi baru buat penjelmaan?

Hi Mat Salo,

Salute to all the Agents of Change and to all brave voters for making this possible.
Like you, I'm stuck here in Indonesia. How I wish I was home...in Sarawak to exercise my rights....

If only..if only....DAP and PKR would compromise in Sabah and Sarawak....the outcome would have been different.

Anyhow, I see better future in years to come....

God bless and take care.

Hi Abang Mat,

Ala...Caption la itu gambar...

I duk tengok all the pics and trying to figure who is who lar...

Anyway, I know I was sad when a certain SIL won the seat...I don't care who goes against him (unless it is someone of not-much-vellu or the (former!) minister-of-misinformation), I'd rather that person wins!

It was a sad day for Malaysia, as far as the SIL goes...=(

Salam bro,

I believe, should Anwar fail to impress BN component parties to join BA and form a new government soon, Pak lalalah will be calling for a snap election within 3 years - before any BA states can see the fruition of their projects for the rakyat! This move too, Paklalalah hopes, will catch the BA napping.

So, if the above comes true, you will still have your chance, insyAllah.

Salam Bro MS:

1- Sorry about your unfortunate journey but I think phillips made your day, right?

2- Your were not here, yes. But you did contribute to the changes. Your calls back home did make changes. Your donation to Eli and Chegubard is worth more than all the juicy contracts BN gave out to UMNOPUTRAS.

3- Like sis Elviza said, our new reps better start cracking their arses. They will be closely monitored by us and Bn(for sure)

4- Now that Shah mentioned it, yes PL might call for a snap GE if BN is able to settled their internal problems.Or will it be Najib to call for the GE?

Swampman....unbeknown to you and many your message for change came across the oceans from your mossy-infested Kalimantan marshes, loud and clear.
From KLconfidential's report on chegubards press conference you would have had a good insight into the reasons that Badrul lost to KJ. But not known to many is one fact: Anwar and all the PKR's big boys DID NOT MAKE TIME FOR EVEN ONE VISIT TO REMBAU TO BAT FOR CHEGUBARD. HE HAD TO DO THE BATTING, PITCHING AND FIELDING ALL BY HIMSELF. Little David was offered as a sacrificial lamb. Go figure.
When do you come back.....had a good night with Shieh.....and meeting with Husam this afternoon.

Salam MS,
Happy that your wish comes true despite your distance miles away. Hope you will keep up your good work to keep the winning birds true to their words and struggle.

It’s the beginning of a real struggle for all the cyber warriors especially the new YBs. I prayed the wave of change will bring everlasting peace, harmony and prosperity throughout the land in a long shot.

Mat Salo,

Let's hope he doesn't appoint that abmoninable son-in-law as minister in his cabinet.

Bro...I begged u to come back didn't I? Tapi takpa lah.
Your prayer SMS on eve of March 8 moved me. It must have worked u know.

Touched to see my pix there along with so many of the usual suspects.

Information is weapon. It can be used for good and bad. Even in the best of intentions I as a blogger may have somehow skewed the opinion of some readers.

Thankfully, we have the comments section where I could be set right. I guess if you blog with conviction as to what is right, and you allow people to differ from your opinion, then u are alright.

Anyway, bila balik bang? Teh tarik this time definitely sweeter...heheh.

Daphne mah gal, u wanna know who is who in the pic...tanya wa....for a nominal fee, I will caption em all..heheh.

Daphne,

tak payah bayar si Anu (damn it sounds vulgar man!) tuh apa apa. You datang jer MRT at Kak Tons house every tuesday.

The usual suspects will be there come rain or shine without shame whatsoever. Neither would they think about troubling Kak Ton at all. Hahahahahahah... sayang Kak Ton.

p/s: next week ada sessi belajar masak lasagna kat umah kak ton. Sapa nak ikutttttttt???

Gulp! Where am I? ohhh... Mat Salo's blog. Sorry bro! We'll eat your portion. Heh...

Anonymous said...

Set ? Daph...I told ya once that i'd drive u to MRT. Offer still stands. Mari laaa.

Elviza...apo si anu si anu...
nak kena sunat lagi ah?

ouch...

J.T. said...

Eh! saya nak ikut!!!!
(feeling sad that it is not possible because it will cost me in more ways than one - ticket, transport, and getting frisked at the airport by some woman in uniform. heck! if she is going to touch me inappropriately, she should pay me!)

Mee Rebus at Kak Ton's sounds like fun. Seriously, I hope to make it there some day.

Mat Salo, thanks for this space. :)

Anonymous said...

JT...i'll fetch ya. dun worry. Kak Ton's place is a haven for tokkok as well as intellectual stuff.

It has been missing Mat Salo's presence for some time tho...hope u, Daph and mat salo turn up on the same day.

If it is next tuesday, u guys get to sample Elviza's lasagna.

Dear Mat Salo,

How ya feel having 4 females conspiring in your blog comment zone...Borneo tadak Blues lagi laa brader.

Mat Salo,

Thanks for your space again. Hopefully it has been entertaining for you as it was for me. As Galadriel says, "Borneo tadak Blues lagi laa brader."

Wishing you good vibrations. :)

Daphne Ling said...

Hey Abang Mat, Anu, Elviza, Danny (Kerp),

That's the biggest obstacle, you know? =)

But God-willing, I'll get to go one day, so thanks for the offer!

Wah! Pi Bani also jumping on the band wagon. Welcome (on behalf of MS lah)
Since Mat Salo too busy to play host (it's okay MS, take your time, we don't mind), we make his 'rumah' like our own. :D (As Elviza said, we are a shameless lot).

Thank you, Mat Salo for this space ... again. Hope my plans work out. ;)

A-laa-maaa...

Guess this is what it feels like to eavesdrop in the school girls' toilet...

Sorry, pure fantasy. I went to an all-male boarding school in my teenaged years so no chance lah. *boo hoo*

But this certainly close enough lah :)

Hmmm, Pi kalau dalam toilet orang bagi salam kena jawab juga ke Pi? Ok lah, wa'alaikum salaam...

Gals - you are welcome to use and/or abuse this space as you see fit. Just put the toilet seat cover up after you're done, ok?

Ha Ha Ha.

P/S I'm blur - is this next week or what? I won't be back this week, but next week can lah!

Daphne Ling said...

Oh Abang Mat,

"School girls' toilet?!?" for long gossiping sessions?

You gotta be kidding lar...

Ini Malaysia lar...The tandas very smelly lar...

Who wants to spend time there? Cepat masuk, cepat keluar! Canteen lar kalau nak borak...;)

Oh, Kak Pi, can! One day lar...
